Careers, Enterprise and Raising Aspirations
As part of the Winsford Education Partnership, we work together to try to tackle disadvantage, raise aspirations and improve the social mobility of children in our town. Our aim is to increase the awareness and teaching of Careers and Enterprise in our schools by providing opportunities for children and young people to access high quality learning and training.
At Winsford High Street Community Primary School, our Pre-Gatsby Framework (see document below) ensures that children develop the skills and resilience to successfully transition into further education, employment and contribute to the economy. Each year group embeds Careers and Enterprise into the curriculum through the explorations of careers within lessons each term, talks from guest speakers and links on educational visits. Our regular World of Work evenings further demonstrate the teaching of Careers and Enterprise through mini-projects where children are able to work on improving their teamwork, decision making and communicative skills along with developing their confidence and self-esteem.
In Key Stage 2, children also explore careers through our Ductu projects. From Years 3 - 6, children have the opportunity to take part in enterprise projects where they learn about national and international companies, learn how businesses are run, meet employees and get to create their own companies within school. This includes developing a business name, logo and a company plan. In addition, pupils establish which roles they will each take on. In turn, this helps to further raise the aspirations of our children and they love to get their teeth into the projects!
