Science

Through the teaching of science, we aim to encourage the development of intellectual and practical skills that will allow children to investigate their environment and the phenomena found in it.

During the Early Years Foundation Stage, the children explore scientific concepts under the umbrella of Understanding of the World.  At this stage of the children’s development the science teaching is centred on each child’s practical first hand experiences.

As the pupils progress into Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, the procedures of scientific investigation and the nature of theories explaining scientific concepts are emphasised.  Children are encouraged to plan and carry out investigations in which they question, observe, measure, interpret results, predict, hypothesise and evaluate scientific evidence and communicate their findings.
