Newsletter 10.1.2020

Date: 10th Jan 2020 @ 12:08pm

Dear Parents & Carers

Welcome back following the Christmas break. I hope that you managed to have a good festive period and that you also avoided some of the ‘bugs’ which have been around!

Closing Date for School Applications

Please note the closing date for applications for children to start at Primary School in September 2020 is 15th January 2020. If you have a child who is due to start at this time please do not automatically assume that they will gain a place at the school because they have an older brother or sister at High Street, or if they are attending our Nursery. All applications for children starting need to be made through the Local Authority. Further details can be obtained from Wyvern House or through the school office.

Year 1 Residential Visit

The first group of Y1 children set off on their residential visit to the Tattenhall Centre on Wednesday morning of this week; it was lovely to see the second group of children’s excited faces on Thursday morning as they set off as well. I visited the first group on Wednesday evening and the second group on Thursday night and joined in with their activities. We realise that this is a big step for the children, but one which they will enjoy and grow and develop from. I would also like to say a big thank you to the Year 1 team who have accompanied the children, as without them, these trips would not be possible.

Achievement for All Quality Mark Award

For the last two years the school has been working on the Achievement for All Quality Mark. We have done this by teaching additional interventions to the children, meeting targets and working closely with parents, carers and governors. I am pleased to announce that after an afternoon of rigorous interviews of a range of children, parents and staff, with supplementing documentation being looked at, we have been notified that we have achieved the Quality Mark. Well done to all concerned, including some of our parents who assisted in the process on the day.

New Staff

I am pleased to inform you that we have appointed a new PPA teacher to join our team. Mrs Mellor will be starting working at our school as of next week. She will be timetabled to cover the classes across the school when their class teachers have their non-contact time each week. We have also appointed two new Teaching Assistants to support our children in school; they are Mrs Traill and Mrs Fisher. In addition to this, we have appointed a new Site Maintenance Officer- Mr Robinson who will be leading the maintenance team and cleaners.

Office Desk

We have a spare office desk that would be free to a good home, that we no longer need. If you are interested in the desk please contact the school office and the desk will be given on a first come first served basis.

Lost Property

We have a number of items of lost property that we are beginning to accumulate again, this includes quality winter coats that are in good condition, but unfortunately have no names in them. We will be displaying our lost property outside of the school office by hanging them on the railings on Thursday 16th January from 3.15pm onwards.

Travellers

We have 2 travellers’ caravans on the Verdin Car Park, which some parents have notified us of in the office. We spoke to the Local Authority when they arrived on Tuesday this week, and they have been served notice to leave. We also notified the fire brigade on 2 occasions, as they had started fires near to where they had set up this concerned us and some parents. At this moment in time we have done all that we can do from a school point of view, but we will keep you updated of this situation when we know more.

PTA Meeting

The next PTA meeting is Thursday 16th January 2020 at 3.30pm at school – new members are very welcome to attend!
