High Street Nursery Weekly News

This week has been a busy one in nursery. We have been focusing on numbers to 10 and beyond. We have also looked at astronaut’s diets, discussing what is healthy and what unhealthy food is. The children have loved trying new fruits, discussing whether they like the fruit and describing the taste and the texture.

In Nursery this week the children have been learning Makaton, we have learned the signs for the nursery rhyme ‘Five Little Firemen  standing in a row’. Each week we will learn some new signs, Makaton is a sign system which develops children’s language through signing with spoken language. Please see the attached link which shows the song and signs, if you like to have go at Makaton with your child.

Thank you for your £1 weekly donations towards snacks, this week in addition to our free fruit, we have had for snack:

  • Breadsticks

  • Crackers & cheese

  • Brioche

  • Pancakes

Helping your child at home:

  • Nursery rhymes play a very important role in early language skills, development of vocabulary, rhythm, rhyme and early phonics skills. Share nursery rhymes with your child on a regular basis.

  • Encourage your child to tidy up after themselves at home, putting one set of toys away before getting others

  • Counting out – encourage your child to count out objects in the environment e.g. how many knives/folks needed for tea time.

  • Number recognition – encourage your child to talk about and identify numerals in the environment e.g. door numbers, numbers on price tags etc.

  • Encourage your child to take off and put on their own coat.

Additional information:

  • If you could send your child into school with a pair of wellies it will ensure we can access our woodland area all year round.

  • We have a school twitter account if you would like to follow us: @nurshistprimary

  • We have a school Facebook page where updates and newsletters are published – Winsford High Street Primary School

 Diary Dates:

  • Manchester airport trip on 28th February 2020
